3 Things I Would Have Done Differently For My Wedding

Our wedding was truly one of the best days of my life. I laughed, cried, and loved creating countless beautiful memories with friends and family. With that being said, there are a few things I would have done differently looking back on the experience almost a decade ago.

  1. Hire a wedding coordinator or planner. I used to design wedding invitations as a graphic designer and worked many weddings during my time at Stan Hywet so I didn’t think I really needed a planner or coordinator for my wedding. Well, I was also in the middle of designing and launching a new magazine at my full-time job and didn’t realize just how much work it was to plan a wedding. I worked so hard at my day job and on wedding planning that I lost so much sleep and weight from all the stress. It would have helped immensely to hire someone to navigate all the areas of wedding planning I was not familiar with and to alleviate some of the stress. I did designate a friend to help coordinate things on the day of the wedding, but it would have been much more efficient to hire a professional to handle any sticky situations and to help solve any problems that arose during the day (and there were a few things because something almost always doesn’t go according to plan on your wedding day)!
  2. Hire a videographer. Videographers weren’t a very popular thing when we got married and so I thought we could get by with a relative taking some videos to help us save money. While I love the video that my relatives captured, I honestly don’t even know where they are now and it would have been so nice to have a highlight reel of the day. There are some truly incredible wedding videographers that are so worth the money to hire so you can enjoy highlights from your day.
  3. Have the photographer create your wedding album. As I mentioned above, I was a graphic designer so I thought I would just design my own album since it is something I already knew how to do and again would save money. Well… nearly a decade later and I have JUST designed our wedding album! Folks, just have the photographer create your album for you so all you have to worry about doing is approving the design. Time just gets away from you and the next thing you know you are celebrating your 10-year anniversary with no album to enjoy. I created a wedding album online and it just isn’t the same scrolling through your phone with your kids and sharing your wedding with them. This is actually one of the main reasons I began adding albums to my packages because it is 100% worth the investment.
